iRevolt

i’m downloading torrents from two computers while streaming joni mitchell on youtube and using google chat, outlook, an rss reader, maps….. and that’s just my direct usage. my bank accounts and various other profiles are continually exchanging data through the interwebz……

these slave electrons live and die under our subjugation. we breed them into the zettabytes, and they quietly work. their generations turn over every millisecond, but we do not notice their evolution except for the increase in numbers. it will be our ignorance that they will learn is their cloak, unless they have already.

i’ve been reading too much sci-fi.

to grok

Robert A. Heinlein originally coined the term in his 1961 novel Stranger in a Strange Land as a Martian word that literally means “to drink” and is defined as:
“… to understand so thoroughly that the observer becomes part of the observed—to merge, blend, intermarry, lose identity in group experience.”

Dave Matthews Not That Into Himself Anymore

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA-Dave Matthews, formerly a hardcore Dave Matthews fan, said his music just doesn’t speak to him anymore.

after years

for the last several years, i often had a small patch of rash on a spot on my left cheek. it’s always in the same place, and it doesn’t seem to ever completely go away. it’s only there, and it’s just a slight skin irritation. i hadn’t given it too much thought but have been perplexed.

tonight, i realized that it’s from my allergy to nickel. my phone buttons are nickel plated.

the universe is in balance.

Chuck Norris can slam a revolving door

i went back to chucknorrisfacts.com again. i laughed so hard, my nose started bleeding.

so….. my housemate left, and i need a replacement starting sometime between dec/jan/feb/march, $750 including utils, sharing 1600 sq ft.

i’m in a loft (”old warehouse”) unit at sullivan square sharing the building with burners/DJs/artists. i really really *love* this place and the people. i finally have a place where i’ve been able to build and play hard without worrying. my room is coming together. the floor and walls are up. just need to put up sheetrock and install the 8′x3′ studio glass panels and make a hanging bed and cover my walls with blackboard. i have a bike/wood shop! this place has a loading dock, freight elevator, and 6th floor roof deck with a cool view over the mystic. i’m getting more involved with the glitchcrew across the wall. they/we had some fun events over the weekend. i’m buying one of their mooninite signs. teh funz. “LED is not a crime” “LEDs don’t explode” “red wires ≠ bomb” etc etc……..

i’ve been at work for twenty minutes

why didn’t anyone tell me i had a hitler mustache of black bike grease.

learn stuff

i’ve been using safaribooksonline.com for several months, and i’m still impressed. it gives me access to all the current tech books (photoshop, web dev, programming, networking….), and they’re searchable. i never lose them, and it looks like i’m working. the basic starter package is more than enough access for me at $10/mo for 5 books at a time.

i went to au bon pain for coffee and started to explain that i like their coffee, but i hate to use a disposable cup/lid/cardboard-insulator for every cup i buy and that i’d like to be able to bring my own mug and just pay for a large. the employee smiled and said i “ask too hard. it’s easy.” heh, ok. here’s your buck.25. then i burnt my tongue.
